Meeting notes from April 11

Happy Friday everyone.

A reminder this Saturday April 13, 2013 from 6-10pm at the Jenkins Estate Beaverton,  PAL will be having their fundraising Luau.  $ 75.00 per person.  Please see this link for more details:  http://www.beavertonpal.com/beaverton_pal2_003.htm

We had a couple guests yesterday.  Cheryl Statler and Brian Reynolds from Troop 870 were here.  They presented our club with our Charter.  There are currently 55 registered scouts in the group and 22 adults.  Monday night meeting at 7pm at Mt. View Middle School.  If anyone from our club would like to go and check what they are about.

They also have a National Jamboree Fundraiser coming up.  Saturday April 20, 2013.  5pm check in 5:30pm silent auction then live auction to follow that.  $ 30.00 per person.  Contact Trina Strahl at 503-380-4434 if you are interested in attending.

Marv Doty was presented with a very large card from the troop as a thank you for facilitating the wood cutting.  He was given a $ 600 check.

Raffle winner last week was Eric Oathes, he gave his winnings back to the club, after using one dollar to buy another ticket.  Sadly he didn't win.  Bob P. won, he always claims he never wins.

Bob P. passed around a flier he got from past president and member Gary Mahone.  He is involved with Young Life in Banks.  They are having a golf tournament May 19th.  Check in 12pm, start at 1pm.  For more details go to younglife.org

Updates on the bulletin boards for the Aloha Community Library.  Last week Marv D. and Bob A worked on staining the boards.  Jack approached me at the breakfast to see if I could do some steady painting of the letters he was routing out on one of the frames.  I did that yesterday and have to say it really makes the letters pop.  Jack is in the process of assembling. If you want to help with this project please give him a ring.  He hopes to be done by the end of next week.

Our speaker this week was Captain Eric Oathes from the Beaverton Police Department.  He said they currently have 134 sworn officers and 35 professional staff. They are one of the few records departments that are 24 hours.  There are 3 chaplains, 2 active and 1 reserve.  Soon the police department will be taking crisis intervention training to help in dealing with the growing mental health issues.  He talked a bit about the Portland PAL closing and mentioned that the Beaverton Pal has money till July of this year.  They are hoping the Luau is helpful.

This day in history, 1951 Truman Relieves MacArthur of duties in Korea.

See you all next week.  And don't forget to check out our website for up coming speakers and updates.  http://beavertonoptimist.webs.com/
